Oregon Wine
Just outside of Portland, Oregon, lies a great wine growing region in the Willamette Valley. The wineries here are known world wide for their elegant Pinot Noirs, Oregon's signature grape. On this trip Adelsheim Vineyard and Chehalem Winery hosted us during the tail end of their hectic crush season.
Above: Adelsheim Vineyard, near Newberg, Oregon. Adelsheim produces some great Pinot Noirs as well some interesting wines known as "wacky" at the winery. At first taste, Auxerrois has a subtle hint of fruit but lacks any substantial dryness. Auxerrois is a relatively unknown grape with less than 500 acres planted worldwide according to Mr. Michael Adelsheim at the winery. Adelsheim's Deglace wine is an outstanding dessert wine, made from Pinot Noir grapes that are frozen after harvest and done in a style fitting the outstanding profile of Oregon wine. Take a look at their "wacky" selection of wines and let us know if you're interested in any of them!
There are over 300 wineries in Oregon but the time spent at two of their top producing wineries was an educational experience. Hopefully in the future there will be another trip to Oregon to explore and experience more wineries.
